Hospitalised Employees Recognised on International Workers Day, May 1st

MoHRE visits hospitals to honour workers contribution to UAE development.

MoHRE carries out humanitarian visits to hospitalised workers in appreciation of their contributions to national development.

The United Arab Emirates, through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and in collaboration with public and private sector partners—organised a series of events on the occasion of International Workers Day, observed on 1st May of every year.

The initiative forms part of the UAE’s dedicated efforts to honour workers in the UAE across all occasions and express appreciation for their role and contributions to the country’s development and leadership journey.

Held nationwide under the theme ‘Honouring Our Workers’, activities included distributing gifts; honouring employees across various establishments, as well as domestic workers; and visits to workers undergoing medical treatment in hospitals for occupational injuries. These events provide moral and emotional support to workers, re-affirming their sense of belonging and social inclusion.

The visits reflect the UAE’s firm commitment to enhance occupational health and safety standards, prioritising the protection of workers and ensuring a safe and encouraging workplace. The Ministry issued comprehensive guidelines outlining the requirements for ensuring safe and healthy working and living environments for workers. It continues to monitor private sector compliance with these standards to reduce workplace injuries and enhance overall worker wellbeing.

Her Excellency Dalal Alshehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection at MoHRE, said: “Celebrating workers in the labour market is a longstanding practice for the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation – one that aligns with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and with the country’s ambitious economic objectives. These activities enhance workers’ wellbeing, promote happiness among them, and add to the UAE labour market’s appeal, in line with a modernised vision that recognises the pivotal role talents play and understands the importance of cooperation among all parties of the labour market in achieving national goals.”

Alshehhi noted that showing appreciation for the workforce on various occasions has now become a feature of the UAE labour market, allowing workers to feel cared for and valued, and motivating them to become more positively engaged in UAE society, which is built on the values of compassion, respect, and understanding.

This year’s International Workers’ Day celebrations in the UAE come amid a series of remarkable accomplishments for the country’s labour market, which has notably taken the top ranks in nine international competitiveness indicators, namely, low rates of labour disputes, workforce participation, employment rate, working hours, ability to attract talent, preferred destination for global talent, low termination costs, expat population, and labour market flexibility.
